In Bhetaguri, Cooch Behar, a significant protest unfolded as BJP workers and supporters gathered to condemn the alleged unlawful arrest of the BJP vice-president by the police. The demonstration, which took place on the Dinhata-Cooch Behar State Highway, resulted in a lengthy traffic jam, prompting police intervention from the Dinhata police station to restore order.
The controversy centers around the arrest of Gautam Sen, husband of BJP Panchayat member Ratima Sen, who was reportedly taken into police custody two days prior on suspicion of paddy theft. Gautam, who also serves as the Deputy Head of Bhetaguri-2 Gram Panchayat, was presented in the Dinhata Sub-Divisional Court on Monday, where the judge ruled for his detention in jail for seven days. BJP asserts that Gautam's arrest was conducted without proper legal basis, leading to the protest by party members and supporters.
